Project description

Global Caravan seeks to be a tangible expression of God’s love for some of his least privileged children. We seek to give hope and opportunity to underprivileged children in Africa by creating classroom and physical libraries in their home villages and by providing STEM kits.

We believe that access to books and education is the first step toward equipping these children to rise above their circumstances and develop their God-given talents and abilities.

The libraries will be an important refuge for the children between their school and their home, a place where they can learn in a different and more independent environment to develop new ways to study. They will provide learning opportunities to children who do not have the convenience of light in their homes to do their homework after school.

We begin with the classroom libraries:

The classroom library consists of well- organized bookshelves in the classroom filled with good and selected books in different discipline and topics.

We are looking to reach our goal to construct modern physical libraries by the year 2018.
Our first step toward this grand and magnificent goal is to start with the classroom library as a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) we can use to advance our cause.  It needs to be small, realistically doable and a Visible Success to energize donors with a clear pathway toward our bigger goal to construct major physical libraries.

Every classroom in each school we pick will have a library. Depending on the size of the school the total cost to do an entire school will range from $6,000 to $10,000, include shipping of books and everything.

We complement the learning with AV centers and school supplies:

While a library full of books is a necessary foundation for good learning, there are many other educational tools and supplies that complement this learning. In addition to building and equipping libraries Global Caravan will provide STEM kits and other supplies needed to make sure that no child misses or fails a class just for the lack of these small things.

Global Caravan libraries will also provide visual support to learning through the showing of educational documentaries. To achieve this goal Global Caravan will provide three Audio Visual centers for each school. This will consist of the installment of a television set and a DVD player in three different classrooms.

We hope to see the children and students in those regions where we will operate succeed in education with the knowledge they need to be in the driving seat of their future and raise their families and communities out of poverty.

The results Global Caravan aims to reach in local schools:

  • - Raise general interest in reading at all grade levels
  • - Improve reading scores from K – grade 6 for better preparedness for Junior High
  • - Improve test scores in grade six exams.
- Increase girls’ access to Junior High.
  •
- Improve Junior High test scores to increase the chances of students to do well in High School

Our goal for the next five years

Our goal over the next five years is to build three libraries in Cote d’Ivoire and two in Ghana; starting January 2015 and ending December 2020.

We have already identified villages/towns, where plots of land have been given to us on school sites by officials, and have formed teams led by education professionals eager and ready to work with us.
The building design has been completed by our head architect based in Cote d’Ivoire. The same model will be used for all the Global Caravan libraries. We are now gathering resources to start construction.
We have also designed the shelves. The same model will be used for the classroom libraries and the physical libraries.

Our five year goal is to complete two classroom library projects school in Ghana and one in Cote d’Ivoire from 2015-2018. We will expand with the physical library in the fourth and fifth year (2018-2020) with the construction of one in each country.

We cannot do it alone. The success of our mission depends on the loyalty and trust of our donors. Global Caravan believes your generous contribution makes you an active partner in our mission, and we will work hard to earn and keep your trust.

The number of libraries we are planning to build will be determined by the amount of funds we will raise. Our main goal is to double the current number projected for the next five years from 2020 to 2025; expand through many regions in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana; and beyond to other West African countries.

The cost per library (physical library) in Ghana will be $67,016.00 and the cost per library in Cote D’Ivoire will be $73, 016.00. Our physical libraries are currently 40 feet long and 30 feet wide. They will house a diverse supply of quality books, a sitting area with chairs and tables, computers and an audio-visual area to enable the students to see educational documentaries. There will also be a stage area for presentations and performances.

In order to achieve our goals and be successful we have put together a strategy that we believe will help the most. Above all we want a strong solid community involvement.

In order to achieve our goals and be successful we have put together a strategy that we believe will help the most. Above all we want a strong solid community involvement.

  • - We have put together two strong management teams in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana that include teachers, village officials, former civil servants (retirees) and students. We will train them to work together for the benefit of the students and the communities the project is implemented.
  • - We have put a program in place that will facilitate cooperation, coordination to make operations work between the library host village staff and the staff of the villages where students will commute to the library.
  • - We have put a trimestrial inventory program in place that will track the use of resources in the libraries, which will help us with the annual inventory.

Global Caravan aims to reach following results in local schools:
• Help the children reach higher academic achievements which would help them stay in school
• Raise general interest in reading at all grade levels
• Improve reading scores from K – grade 6 for better preparedness for Junior High
• Improve test scores in grade six exams.
• Increase success among girls and increase their access to Junior High and High School
• Improve Junior High test scores to increase the chances of students to do well in High School
• Make education attractive in the community
